Pescara vs Empoli
2016/17 Italian Serie A.
Date: Sunday, 06 November 2016
Kick-Off: 11:30 UK,
Venue: Stadio Adriatico-Giovanni Cornacchia (Naples).
Pescara and Empoli – two sides who are currently fighting the drop – will be desperate for a win heading into the international hiatus.
The Delfini and the Azzurri presently sit in 17th and 18th respectively. They have each earned a dismal seven points from their first 11 matches. Only Palermo and Crotone have done even worse. Their records are also virtually identical. One measly win each, four draws, and a whopping six losses. Pescara only find themselves in the last non-relegation spot due to a slightly better goal difference.
Not surprisingly, both Pescara and Empoli are on pretty long winless streaks. Still, Empoli fans have something they can boast about – at least their team has won an actual game on the pitch. Unfortunately, Pescara’s sole win, which was gifted to them after Sassuolo’s administrative error, still remains the only full three points they’ve picked up all season. Massimo Oddo’s side come into this game on a three match losing streak. And they, too can have something to brag about, perhaps – their attack isn’t the worst in the division.
No, that dubious honor belongs to Empoli, who have netted just a dismal two in 11 games. In fact, the Azzurri have failed to score in their past eight Serie A games and it is not surprising they find themselves in major trouble. Interestingly enough, though, Empoli’s defense is not as awful as their attack. They have conceded 13, which is less than teams like AC Milan, nearly half that of Cagliari’s leaky 24, and just one less than Roma and Napoli – who occupy the European football spots.
So clearly, it is their awful attack that is really hurting them here and unless if they can find a solution quickly, they will definitely be set for a return to Serie B next season.

Pescara vs Empoli: Prediction
This is nothing short of a relegation six-pointer. Both teams are in horrible form at the moment and will want nothing but to head into the international break with a win in hand. For Pescara, they now are the only team yet to win a game on the pitch. Even Crotone managed to finally end their barren spell by shocking Chievo 2-0 in the last round. In front of their home fans, the Delfini will be desperate to make amends, but Empoli will try to dig in and make things difficult. Given that under 2.5 goals appears to be par for the course, don’t expect to see a high-scoring encounter.
In fact, don’t be surprised to see both teams eager to let the other have the ball as they hunker down, thus creating an absolute snooze-fest. Empoli, however, did manage to hold Roma to a scoreless stalemate, which is indeed an impressive feat given the Giallorossi boast one of the strongest attacks in the division. That will definitely give them the confidence they need to pick up at least a point here.
