Pescara vs Chievo
2016/17 Italian Serie A.
Date: Saturday, 1 October 2016
Kick-Off: 17:00 UK,
Venue: Stadio Adriatico-Giovanni Cornacchia (Pescara).
Having avoided losses in their past two games, Pescara are still hoping to reach a further milestone as they welcome Chievo to the Stadio Adriatico-Giovanni Cornacchia on Saturday.
The Delfini have picked up six points from their first six games and will be coming into this game having drawn their past two fixtures. However, Massimo Oddo’s men have yet to win an actual match this season. By actual, this means within the normal 90 minutes of play, as Pescara’s sole “victory” was awarded by default after Sassuolo fielded an ineligible player.
Considering that they will predictably battle for survival this term, Pescara will need every single point they can possibly muster. Holding Torino to a scoreless stalemate at home and then to come from 1-0 down against Genoa on the road to equalize certainly will give them a spot of confidence as they look to end their win-less run.
However, Chievo could present a tricky customer. The Flying Donkeys have started off decently enough, with ten points earned so far. For a team whose objective is mid-table safety each season, Rolando Maran will certainly be relatively satisfied with the start they have made. So far, they’ve picked up an impressive 2-0 win over Inter, rebounded admirably following a slender 1-0 loss to Fiorentina with a draw against Lazio and overpowered plucky Sassuolo 2-1.
Yet, their away form is something else entirely. Chievo traditionally have been a side of two fronts. They tend to do very well at home, but on the road they have not been as impressive. To put this in perspective, last season, the Flying Donkeys lost ten away from the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi versus four on home turf.

- Pescara have won only two out of their last 20 home fixtures against teams ranked higher than them in the table.
- Chievo have won 11 out of their last 20 away fixtures against teams ranked lower than them in the table (five draws and four losses).
- The Flying Donkeys have failed to score in five out of their last six road fixtures.
Pescara vs Chievo: Prediction
As noted before, Chievo have had their trials and tribulations on the road. Rolando Maran’s side have lost four out of their past five away games, with only one 2-1 win over Udinese during that period. However, against teams ranked lower than them, the Flying Donkeys have fared decently enough, winning or drawing over half of their last 20 fixtures.
Meanwhile, Pescara have picked up just two points out of a possible nine at home. The Delfini will be desperate to finally earn their first real victory to boost morale, but they have struggled badly since earning an impressive 2-2 draw against Napoli on opening day. Chievo should be able to see this one through, but if one is hoping to see it raining goals, it’d be best to tune in to another game.
