Manuel Pellegrini is confident Man City can win the Champions League this season and counts on the side’s improvement in every season after their 3-2 aggregate win over PSG at the Etihad on Tuesday night.
Man City’s dream of qualifying to their first ever Champions League Semi-finals stage came through after Kevin de Bruyne’s 76th minute goal which handed the Citizens long awaited history.
City draw 2-2 against PSG fortnight ago at Paris and their strategy in the return leg was up to perfection as boss Pellegrini hopes his side can win competition.
“I am sure it is not easy because you have very strong teams in Europe, but I am sure the target of this club is to win the Champions League.
“But not only winning the Champions League will mean that the project at this club is finished.
“I think they want to continue in the long-term, trying to improve in every sense in every department.
“One of the targets is to win, of course, some day the Champions League. Of course, this season, next season.
“If you are in the semi-final, you know you have to play against a very big team of Europe, but playing in the way we did tonight I think that we played better than Paris St Germain.
“We have a lot of trust that we can play against anyone in the way we played tonight.”
City and Real Madrid await Barcelona or Athletico Madrid and Bayern Munich or Benfica on Wednesday night for semi-finals draw and Manual Pellegrini is unfazed with any side his team face.
“For me, exactly the same, Bayern Munich, if they win tomorrow, or Barcelona , Real Madrid – for me it is exactly the same.
“Interesting for whom? Interesting for whom? The media.”
