Parma vs Udinese
2018/19 Italian Serie A.
Date: Sunday, 19 August 2018
Kick-Off: 19:30 UK,
Venue: Stadio Ennio Tardini (Parma).
After a tough battle and a series and ups and downs, Parma are finally back in the top flight. It’s been a rough ride for them, as they were relegated at the end of the 2014/2015 season after finishing in 20th place, but the misery for the Crociati didn’t stop just there.
Due to mounting debts, they tumbled all the way down to the fourth tier. It was as shocking decline for a club who once were mixing it up with Europe’s elite and won two UEFA Cups along the way back in the 1990’s.
However, they have raced back up the ranks, and became the first team to be demoted to Serie D and secure successive promotions in each season to earn their spot back in Serie A. Parma, however, were nearly denied this chance after receiving a five point deduction but now have seen that lifted.
A two year ban on striker Emanuele Calaiò has also been reduced so with that out of the way they’ll be hoping to refocus after a bad start in the Coppa Italia.
Udinese have not started off well either after crashing out early by shocking losing 2-1 to Benevento in the early rounds in the same competition.
The defensive woes that plagued the Zebrette continue to plague them yet again, much to their chagrin and that’s something Parma will hope to exploit as the two sides meet on Sunday evening.

Parma vs Udinese: Prediction
After disappointment in the Coppa Italia, both Parma and Udinese will be desperate to get back on track here. Both sides have struggled defensively, but Udinese should be welcoming back Kevin Lasagna up front, which gives them a bit more firepower to at least trouble Parma’s defense.
The hosts are back in the top flight for the first time in several seasons and are playing at home, which will certainly give them more confidence to cause some problems for Udinese’s dodgy defense.
This looks set to be an interesting, open game with goals on each end, but Udinese, having more top flight experience should at least manage a point from this one.
