Palmeiras vs Gremio
Brazilian Serie A
Date: Sunday, 14 October 2018
Kick-Off at 20:00 UK / 21:00 CET
Venue: Estadio Municipal Paulo Machado de Carvalho (Sao Paulo).

A real buzz is expected in and around Estadio Municipal Paulo Machado de Carvalho on Sunday evening when runaway leaders Palmeiras host the fifth-placed Gremio in the derby of the Matchday. The hosts have really been enjoying a fabulous spell of form recently and head into this in the highest of spirits.

Verdao survived a stern Sao Paulo (fourth-placed outfit) beating them 0-2 away at Morumbi last Saturday. Gustavo Gomez and Deyverson found two goals within three minutes to complete the job with the first-half blitzkrieg from Luiz Felipe Scolari’s men.

The former Brazilian national team head coach can be thrilled with a thread of five wins and a draw in last six outings across competitions. The run includes two wins over Chilean giants Colo-Colo in the Copa Libertadores quarter-final.

Palmeiras vs Gremio: Head-to-head

The head to head record also favours in-form Palmeiras here.

Verdao won 14, drew 12 and lost 8 of 34 encounters against Imortal Tricolor.

Palmeiras head into this off the back of three consecutive wins over Gremio.

Gremio scored just once in last three meetings against Verdao.

Palmeiras vs Gremio: Prediction

Scolari’s troops have been ruthless in front of the home crowd so far in the season. They won 10, drew 2 and lost just 1 of 13 home games with an impressive 25-8 goal difference en route. Verdao won seven on the trot at home in Serie A, conceding just one goal in last six matches on the home court.

Knowing that Gremio have been struggling for goals on travels where they notched just 9 in 14 games in the season, we’d not be surprised to see Scolari’s troops keeping another clean sheet here. We have to mention the visitors, who sit five points below Palmeiras in the ladder, are also on a terrific run of five wins and a draw in last six matches in all competitions.

Gremio will also represent Brazil in Copa Libertadores semi-final having eased past Atletico Tucuman previously. We’ll thus skip the home win pick, predicting a rather close match-up which could easily end without a winner.

Palmeiras vs Gremio: Bet Tips

  • Under 2.5 goals FT @ 1.44 (4/9)
  • Under 0.5 goals in the first half @ 2.25 (5/4).

  1. Hi there,

It’s me again. Here in Brazil no one really calls Estadio Municipal Paulo Machado de Carvalho by that name. Around here we call it “Estádio do Pacaembu”, “Estádio Pacaembu” or simply “Pacaembu”.

    Best wishes,
