Novak Djokovic vs Tennys Sandgren
Wimbledon, 1st round
Date: Tuesday, 3rd June 2018
Expected Start at 11:30 UK / 12:30 CET
Novak Djokovic looks to have his sights set for a deep run at a major tournament here at Wimbledon.
The three-time champion has been far away from his best in the last couple of years, but the performance he showed last week at Queen’s (the strongest pre-Wimbledon test) is super encouraging as the former World No 1 went all the way to the final.
Novak had Marin Cilic (last year’s runner-up at the All England Club) on ropes in the Queen’s final, but he failed to convert a match-point at 7-5 5-4 in the second set.
The Wimbledon draw placed him in the same half with the likes of Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal, setting up the potential last 16 round with the French Open runner-up Dominic Thiem.
Most importantly, Djokovic can’t play Roger Federer before the final which makes his deep run a highly likable scenario here following impressive showing he produced at Queen’s.

Novak Djokovic vs Tennys Sandgren: Prediction
Novak should really not have any troubles storming past Tennys Sandgren here given that the US player has only featured four matches on the grass in his entire career.
The American won just one of these four and this will be his maiden appearance in the main draw of Wimbledon (what an occasion is to play the like of Djokovic there).
We also have to mention that Sandgren enjoyed a dream start to the year when he shocked everyone by reaching the quarterfinal of the Australian Open in January.
He also played the Houston final in mid-April (clay), but kind of lost the grip as the season progressed, falling 3-1 to less popular World No 123 Hubert Hurkacz of Poland in the opening round of Roland Garros.
However, Sandgren has not been in action ever since that loss, meaning the Wimbledon opener will be his maiden match on the grass this year.
Novak is heavy favourite and a straight-set win for the three-time champion is the most likable of scenarios here. You can back the Under 29.5 games in the match as well at the 1.72 odds, while Novak -7.5 games handicap looks decent at 1.66 as well.
