Nigeria vs Ghana
Africa – World Cup Qualification
Date: Tuesday, 29 March 2022
Kick-off at 17:00 UK / 18:00 CET
Venue: Lagos National Stadium.
Nigeria and Ghana will face off in what is a heavyweight qualifier for a place at the 2022 World Cup. After their first-leg gets over at Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Friday their attention now turns to a two-legged tie for a World Cup spot, with Nigeria having home advantage here at Lagos National Stadium.
The Nigerians went unbeaten in all but one of their 6 games in the World Cup qualifiers, picking up four wins and one draw to attain 13 points to finish the top of Group C. They were better than their last-16 exit suggested and look to have the edge in quality to take home this second leg after surviving the first on road.
The Super Eagles suffered a 1-0 loss against Tunisia last at AFCON Round of 8. They took control of proceedings at the turn of the 21st century, claiming 5 successive victories across World Cup, AFCON and friendly competition, but that tide has turned again in more recent times.
Ghana had an AFCON campaign to forget, and they’ll be hoping they can forget about it as they try and secure their place in Qatar. They suffered a shock group stage exit after picking up just one point from three games in Group C.
They played out a 1-1 draw with Gabon in their second outing before suffering a disappointing 3-2 defeat at the hands of the newly came Comoros in the group finale. Since they are poor on road, they need to have a strong foot in the first leg in order to play this upcoming fixture away.
Nigeria vs Ghana Head-to-head (h2h)
- Their last 5 h2hs saw 2 wins for Ghana while Nigeria won once and a draw occurred on the other.
- The latest fixture ended on a 4-1 win to Ghana at WAFU Cup of Nations.
- Three of the past four encounters had seen a nil figure on the scoreboard.
Nigeria vs Ghana Prediction
Nigeria won and lost twice on each of their last 5 home fixtures. But on considering their h2hs, the Super eagles won thrice of their last 5 meetings at home against this rival.
Meanwhile, Ghana are without an away win since the last 4 games on road. They however won the last outing against Nigeria by 4-1 at WCN.
Depending on their first-leg outcome, we could see the away team giving all out as they have done before.
