In the 2nd round of the French Ligue 1, Nice is hosting the newly promoted Troyes at the Allianz Riviera. After a not-so-great start, both teams will be eyeing a for a win to inject some momentum in their season campaign.
The opening game for the season brought Nice to the 14th place in the league table following an away defeat to St Etienne by the narrow 1-0 margin. Still, this doesn’t necessarily mean that they are in a bad shape. Their team has been improved by the acquisition of an experienced midfielder in Wesley Snejider, a transfer from Turkish giants Galatasaray. Also, Nice are in a good mood after beating Ajax, after not tipped as favorites in the semi-finals of the Champions League Qualifications.
Troyes hosted Rennes in the opening league fixture and earned a 1-1 draw. This is an encouraging start for the club that earned their promotion from second division. They are team that are heavily tipped to go down to the Ligue 1, but the start could give them a lot of confidence. Troyes will be heading into matchday 2 sitting at 12th place in the league table.
Nice vs Troyes: Head-to-head
Of the six matches between the two teams, Nice came out as a winner four times, the other two times ending in a draw. Not one of the matches ended without a goal; in fact, the average number of goals per game is above three. Their last meeting was in March 2016 when Nice won at home with a score of 2 – 1.
Nice vs Troyes: Predictions
The draw against Rennes on matchday 1 has provided Troyes with a boost of confidence and they will do their best to prove themselves worthy of the Ligue 1. Due to the injuries, Nice are likely to be without the eccentric Mario Balotelli. This could prompt them to adopt somewhat of a more cautious approach. Also, because of their upcoming match with Napoli in the Champions League Qualifications.
But nevertheless, the match is expected to end in favor of the hosting team. They have a solid record at home, having lost just once since the beginning of the calender year. And, if history is to repeat itself, it should end with at least three goals scored.
