A real buzz is expected in and around St. James’ Park on Sunday afternoon as Newcastle and Tottenham are about to lock horns in a huge six-pointer in the battle for the top-four finish.
A win for the hosts here would probably eliminate the Spurs from the battle as the visitors are already trailing by three points and the Magpies have a game in hand on them on top.
Neither team will enter the tie in high spirits but we are especially worried for Tottenham who have suffered a shocking 2-3 defeat on the home patch to AFC Bournemouth last weekend.
Spurs now have just one win in the last four league games despite facing the likes of Southampton, Everton, Brighton, and Bournemouth in the process. It is a poor return for a team with the Champions League ambitions.
To make things worse for Spurs, they need to travel to St. James’ Park to battle Newcastle who have generally play much better football at home than on the road so far in the season.
Eddie Howe’s men lost just 1 of 14 league fixtures in front of the home crowd this season. They had been on a five-win thread in the league before dropping the ball last weekend away at Aston Villa.
The trough 3-0 loss in Birmingham has certainly affect the team’s spirits but Howe and his men have enough quality to get a result in front of the best fans in the country in an electric atmosphere of St. James’ Park.

It is very hard to play for any team in the league at St. James’ Park. Tottenham will go into this off the back of a 2-3 home loss to the likes of Bournemouth, while Newcastle have managed five wins in the last six Premier League outings.
