New York City vs Orlando City
Major League Soccer
Date: Sunday, 3rd June 2018
Kick-Off at 00:30 UK / 01:30 CET
Venue: Yankee Stadium, New York City.
New York City entered the new season with the sky-high expectations, but they failed to justify these to the max so far in the season. Yes, the Pigeons may be just two points short of Eastern Conference leaders Atlanta United at the moment, but their performances have been anything but consistent and there are a lot of clouds in and around the squad ahead of the weekend’s meeting with Orlando City at Yankee Stadium.
There are rumours about Patrick Vieira’s departure in the next couple of weeks, while the international duties left the French manager without two important figures, Costa Rican midfielder Rodney Wallace (eight appearances) and Costa Rican defender Ronald Matarrita (nine appearances, one goal).
Luckily for Vieira, his men are about to take on the likes of Orlando City who are probably the streakiest side in the league at the start of the season. The Lions were on an amazing run of six consecutive wins, but they’ll head into this off the back of three straight defeats.
New York City vs Orlando City: Head-to-head
- The Lions lead the head to head tie by two wins coming into their 12th head to head encounter with New York City.
- The Pigeons, however, won each of last two meetings with Orlando with an impressive 5-0 goal difference along the way.
- Teams have two wins apiece in matches at Yankee Stadium ahead of their sixth outing there.
New York City vs Orlando City: Predictions
The hosts are the clear favourites according to the bookies, but we’d not underestimate the Lions in spite of the fact they lost three in a row amid a tough schedule of late. Nevertheless, none of these losses (amid a tough schedule) were by two or more goals margin and all of them saw Orlando City getting on the scoresheet.
Given that the Pigeons shipped at least two goals on three separate occasions in last four league matches, we do find the both teams to score option as the most appropriate of the betting picks at 1.61 odds here. Alternatively, we’ll try and get the value of the 2.62 odds offered for the home win & BTTS at 2.62 as New York City have won each of five games on the home patch since the start of the season.
