Napoli vs Fiorentina
2016/17 Italian Serie A.
Date: Saturday, 20 May 2017
Kick-Off: 19:45 UK,
Venue: Stadio San Paolo (Naples).
Napoli will continue their push for second spot as they take on Fiorentina at the Stadio San Paolo on Saturday evening.
The Partenopei certainly hoped that Roma would have dropped points over the weekend, especially considering that the Giallorossi were taking on Juventus. However, Luciano Spalletti’s men performed admirably to secure a 3-1 victory over the reigning Scudetto champions, as they were loath to allow Massimiliano Allegri’s men to celebrate winning a sixth straight title on their home turf.
Roma, meanwhile, are intent on securing an automatic Champions League berth, so the battle for runners-up looks set to continue until the final matchday. Napoli themselves are keen on pipping the Lupi to that coveted place and come into this game having earned an impressive 5-0 win over Torino last weekend. What made that victory even more notable is the fact that the Granata are no slouches themselves up front, so keeping a clean sheet against them certainly is not an easy task.
Napoli have played some excellent football this season, but unfortunately have nothing to show for their efforts. Juventus clinched the Coppa Italia, despite the Partenopei putting up a good fight in the semi-finals. They are also out of the Scudetto race, and will be watching the Champions League final from their TV sets, which will be decided between Real Madrid – who predictably knocked them out – and the Bianconeri.
In any case, they can look forward to next season, but will want to finish this one off well. Their upcoming visitors have had a disappointing away record. Fiorentina are one of only a few sides to shocking lose on the road to Palermo, who have been quite poor at home and are already relegated. All in all, they have lost eight out of their away games this season.
Then again, the Gigliati may be hoping to avoid finishing in sixth after all. Sixth means that the play-offs will start in July, and may of the players may not want to start their campaigns early. In any case, Napoli are the ones with all to play for, and they will do everything they can to seal all three points on Saturday.

Napoli vs Fiorentina: Prediction
Fiorentina haven’t beaten Napoli at this ground since March 2014. The Viola will be missing two key players – Borja Valero and Davide Astori – due to suspension. With Paulo Sousa out next term, the players appear to have already turned their attention towards their summer holidays and next season. Whilst they have nothing left to play for, Napoli definitely do have a goal in mind – to try to finish in second. It won’t be easy, as Roma are the heavy favorites against Chievo, but they will definitely push this battle until the end. Expect them to pick up all three points against a Fiorentina side who have been less than stellar in their travels this season.
