Napoli vs Chievo
2016/17 Italian Serie A.
Date: Saturday, 24 September 2016
Kick-Off: 19:45 UK,
Venue: Stadio San Paolo (Napoli).
A frustrating scoreless stalemate sees Napoli temporarily slip into second behind Juventus, and the Partenopei will be hoping to keep up pressure on the Bianconeri heading into their clash with Chievo on Saturday.
Maurizio Sarri’s men were unable to score for the first time all season, a surprising fact given the impressive form of players like Dries Mertens, Jose Callejon, and Arkadiusz Milik. The Italian tactician will now have to decide how to manage this game tactically as Napoli will have a tough Champions League fixture against Portuguese outfit Benfica coming up in midweek.
It indeed will be a tricky case of deciding how to select the ideal starting XI especially given Chievo’s impressive start to the season. The Flying Donkeys, who consistently are simply happy to reach at least 40 points per term, just may be aiming higher than mid-table as they’ve picked up three wins out of their first five games.
On 10 points, Rolando Maran’s squad are just one point behind Napoli and will be feeling confident having beaten Sassuolo, who have been quite solid this term. Maran, however, may have to rotate his squad in order to keep key players like Valter Birsa – who has been one of Chievo’s best performers – rested.
Although Chievo have won only one out of their last five meetings, they will be hoping that Napoli will be somewhat distracted by their upcoming European fixture to cause them some headaches at the Stadio San Paolo. However, the visitors have traditionally not fared well on the road, losing ten out of their 19 away fixtures last season, and against teams ranked higher than them, that record is even worse.

Napoli vs Chievo: Prediction
Despite stumbling to a draw against Genoa, whilst Chievo beat Sassuolo, Napoli are still expected to come out on top in this fixture. The Flying Donkeys may be able to cause them a bit of concerns and the Partenopei could find it hard to keep a clean sheet. However, they should be able to do just enough to grind out a narrow win and avoid dropping additional points ahead of their home tie with Benfica.
