Monagas vs Defensor Sporting
South America – Copa Libertadores
Date: Thursday, 26 April 2018
Kick-Off at 01:45 UK
Venue: Estadio Monumental de Maturin (Maturin).
Monagas got off to a horrendous kick off to their maiden campaign in Copa Libertadores. They are yet to clinch their first point in the most elite football competition in South America after losing each of the opening three ties by two or more goals difference. Their biggest chance for the first ever Copa Libertadores point will probably come on Wednesday evening when Uruguayan Defensor Sporting are to travel to Maturin for the fourth round clash.
On the other hand, we must mention that the visitors are desperate for the spoils here, as another win over the group underdogs would help them keep ground on the likes of Cerro Porteno and Gremio in the battle for the top two spots in the Group 1. Eduardo Acevedo’s side sit third at the moment with four points from three games so far.
Monagas vs Defensor Sporting: Head-to-head
The clash played last week (in the third round of the competition) was the first ever head to head meeting between Defensor Sporting and Monagas.
The Uruguayans snatched a 3-1 victory thanks to a brace from Carlos Benavidez. Interestingly, all four goals were seen within the ranger of 11 minutes midway through the second half.
Monagas vs Defensor Sporting: Prediction
Defensor Sporting were doing well of late. They won five and drew one of last six games in all competitions. Such fine form helped the team climb up to the fourth place in the Primera Division standings.
Unlike them, Monagas are struggling badly to find the right shape. They sit at the disappointing 15th place in the Venezuelan Primera Division ladder. The main problem for Jhonny Ferreira obviously lies in the lack of the meticulousness in his team’s defensive line. Monagas conceded eight goals in last three games in all competition. Furthermore, they conceded nine in three Copa Libertadores fixtures so far. Taking this into consideration, we just have to see the value in backing the away win at the 2.05 odds.
On the other hand, Defensor Sporting conceded at least a goal in each of three matches so far in the competition. Monagas managed to find the net in the away fixtures, why they would not do the same in front of the home fans? The BTTS sick is priced up at 1.95.
