Monaco vs Reims
France – Ligue 1
Date: Sunday 23rd August 2020
Kick off at 12:00 UK/ 13:00 CET
Venue: Stade Louis II.
It’s been a tough few seasons for Monaco who have flirted with relegation and gone through a succession of coaches. They finished 9th last season under Roberto Moreno but he was sacked last month and now Niko Kovac will have a chance to coach the side.
Kovac won the league with Bayern Munich and that has given the French side confidence to hand him a 3 year contract. Monaco have not been that active in the transfer market though it is interesting that they signed Axel Disasi from Reims the team they are playing at the weekend. Disasi has been great for Reims last season so that is a major coup for Monaco.
Monaco only played 4 pre-season games winning 2, losing 1 and drawing one. Their last game was against AZ Alkmaar which they impressively won 2-0 away from home.
Because the league in France ended suddenly it meant that Reims finished in a Europa League position. They will have to play a qualifying game but if they win that then the famous French club will be involved in European football once again.
Some eyebrows were raised when Reims paid Lazio 5 million euros for Valon Berisha the midfielder. Reims pre-season was mixed. At home they lost 4-0 against Bordeaux but they beat Troyes. They lost 3 of their 9 games.

Monaco vs Reims: Prediction
Monaco had a decent pre-season and will be inspired that Niko Kovac will be coaching his 1st competitive game on Sunday.
Reims have had some good results over Monaco in recent years and they come into this game unpredictable. But Monaco have a wealth of quality players that can punish Reims.
Reims traditionally up their game against the better attacking teams but this being Kovac’s first game and Monaco’s first at home this season we think they will be 100% focused to get the right result.
