Monaco vs PSG
France – Ligue 1
Date: Wednesday, 15th January 2020
Kick off at 20:00 UK/ 21:00 CET
Venue: Stade Louis II.

Because PSG has a game in hand over Marseille in 2nd place they will play Monaco for the second time in just 3 days.

The two teams battled it out in Paris on Sunday night where Monaco really impressed as the game ended 3-3. It is a rare sight to see PSG drop points at home and they were leading the game. For PSG they have the chance to get revenge and they will see the recent draw like a loss. Also there is just 5 points between PSG and 2nd placed Marseille, so PSG really do need a win here, if they lose Marseille will start to sense that they could produce a massive shock in French football. Only Monaco have won the title since 2012 apart from the domination by PSG.

Robert Moreno the new Monaco manager has started really well. His side knocked out Reims in the Coupe de France and that was followed by this incredible 3-3 draw. It put to an end the domination that PSG had over Monaco, although the Paris club still score goals almost at will against Monaco.

Monaco are in 8th place but are only 3 points from a top 4 position. At home they have lost twice but have also won their last five in a row with their last home game ending in an emphatic 5-1 victory over Lille.

PSG need this win and if they do so they will put some breathing space from Marseille and would go 8 points clear. PSG have won their last 3 away games and they have the best away record in the league having collected 21 points from a possible 27.

Monaco vs PSG: Head to Head

  • Last season this fixture ended 4-0 to PSG.
  • PSG have scored 21 goals in the last 5 meetings with Monaco.
  • Monaco have not beaten PSG when at home since 2016 going back five games.

Monaco vs PSG: Prediction

One thing is clear, when these two teams play there are goals around. It’s interesting to note that from the last 25 meetings only two have finished 0-0. And we expect the goals to rain down in midweek. Monaco coach Moreno understands that to have a chance against PSG you must attack.

We picked out Monaco’s Wissam Ben Yedder to score in Paris at the weekend and he did. Ben Yedder is one of the best in form strikers in Europe at the moment and we think he can give PSG all sorts of troubles on Wednesday.

At home Monaco are in really good form and the players have reacted well to Moreno’s attacking tactics. The price for them to win with a handicap is great value, so even if this second match ends up in another draw our choice would win.

PSG are around 1.44 which feels a little short given how they have dropped some points away and how they are meeting a big rival who showed up in Paris so well a few days ago.
