Monaco vs Lorient
French Coupe de la Ligue
Date: Wednesday, 19 December 2018
Kick-Off at 20:05 UK / 21:05 CET
Venue: Stade Louis II (Monaco).
Lorient managed to snatch three consecutive 0-1 wins in Coupe de la Ligue to book a last 16 round tie with Monaco. It’s set to be played on Wednesday evening at Stade Louis II where both outfits will be hoping to bring their poor runs to an end.
The hosts made it to the final of the competition in past two year but only to be stopped by PSG via demolishing defeats on both occasions. They will have hard times matching such deep run this time around given their dreadful form in the new season.
Les Monegasques shockingly sit second from bottom in the Ligue 1 ladder after 17 rounds of the competition. They made a managerial change s Arsenal’s legend Thierry Henry took over Leonardo Jardim. Nevertheless, the former striker is still struggling to turn team’s fortunes around. Monaco lost four of past five games in all competitions and they will come into this off the back of a tough 3-0 loss to Lyon on Sunday evening at Groupama Stadium.
Monaco vs Lorient: Head-to-head
- The hosts will rely on the head to head trend looking for the way to advance into the quarter-final of the League Cup here.
- They won each of last three encounters with Les Merlus netting nine goals without conceding a single in the process.
- Les Monegasques won 9, drew 2 and lost just 2 of 13 home encounters with Lorient.
Monaco vs Lorient: Prediction
The visitors won’t come into this in the highest of spirits either. A streak of five straight games without a win in all competitions saw them drop down to 4th place in the Ligue 2 ladder. Promotion to the top class football should be their main goal this season which is why a failure here at Stade Louis II might not be regarded as a big failure for Mickael Landreau and his troops.
The League Cup tie might just be the turning point for Henry’s men and we do find value in backing Monaco to beat lower-division rivals at the 1.72 odds here.
