Monaco vs Lille
France – Ligue 1
Date: Friday, 16 March 2018
Kick-Off at 19:45 UK
Venue: Stade Louis II (Monaco).
Monaco and Lille are going to open the action in the 30th round of French Ligue 1 on Friday evening. The hosts want to remain on the second place which guarantees the participation in the Champions League next season, while the away side is desperate to get away from the relegation zone.
Although they were not able to challenge for another title, the defending champions should be content of the current situation in the top flight. They may finish as the runners-up and snatch the direct spot in the top European cup next season. Radamel Falcao returned to the excellent form and he and his teammates scored 72 goals so far in the campaign. They are four points ahead of Marseille and in the last 14 matches in Ligue 1 they haven’t suffered a defeat. Monaco are almost perfect when playing at home ground since they have lost only one match and allowed two more points to their opponents. If they can keep their performances on the constant level, they’ll secure the 2nd spot at the end of the season.
Lille are facing many problems this season. Although they were projected to challenge one of the spots in the European competitions, invested a lot of money and brought Marcelo Bielsa as the head coach, they are struggling for the survival through the entire season. Only seven wins from 29 games saw them on the 19th position. They failed to score many goals, while their defence is hardly managing to keep the clean sheet. The visitors failed to win in the last six occasions and although they haven’t been so bad on away grounds, they didn’t manage to find themselves in a safe zone. On top of everything, their fans attacked the players after another failure and the draw against Montpellier. It will be interesting to see if they can return focus on the game itself and if they are capable of posing any treat to Monaco.
Monaco v Lille: Head-to-head
The hosts celebrated in their last four clashes and in three occasions Monaco scored four goals and won pretty easily. Their last five matches saw the teams providing at least three goals in total.
Monaco v Lille: Prediction
Monaco are strong favourites in this one and they should be able to continue their winning streak against this opposition and their good run in general.
Since home side is very efficient and Lille’s defence is leaking, we are definitely going to see at least three goals once again.
