Millwall vs Middlesbrough
English League Championship
Date: Saturday, 4th August 2018
Kick-off at 15:00 UK/ 16:00 CET
Venue: The Den (London).
The pleasant surprise from last season Millwall opens up the season with and interesting encounter against play-off semi-finalist Middlesbrough. Both sides have their own ambitions and it will be interesting to look into their opening round performances.
Millwall made their home a literal fortress last season. The Den looked unconquerable even for the strongest sides. Excellent organization at the back and outstanding use of any chances up front saw Millwall making their highest finish since 01-02 season in 8th place.
Manager Neil Harris though will have some mixed feelings for his team’s pre-season preparations. 3 victories and 2 defeats are Millwall’s results with a particular highlight being the 3 clean sheets in the victories – against Bochum, Cambridge and Dartford.
Middlesbrough reached the play-offs last season but that was all they could do. A semi-final loss to Aston Villa with an aggregate score of 1-0 saw their dreams shattered. The team looked unable to break through the experienced Aston Villa defensive line.
The team played plenty of friendlies in preparations for the new campaign. The number of games though was no connected to the performance as Boro lost 4 and won 3. Victories with clean sheet against Sandhausen, Hartlepool and Spennymoor are all decent results but losses against lower league sides such as Accrington and Rochdale are not well accepted even for a friendly.

Millwall vs Middlesbrough: Predictions
Millwall showed incredible results at home last season. The Den is not the best place for a visit and it’s likely to be the same this season. Boro may have some quality advantage but things are getting level in the home ground. Millwall may edge the game and put early pressure on Middlesbrough.
