Both AC Milan and Fiorentina will be gunning for a Europa League spot as they lock horns at the Stadio San Siro on Sunday.
Fiorentina really blew a great chance to secure a top seven spot by losing to Cagliari last weekend, but it was an emotional time for them. In fact, it was an emotional time for both sides due to their connection to Davide Astori, who had played for both the Rossoblu and the Viola before his untimely death earlier this year. Nonetheless, they will have a slight chance of making it to a Europa League spot but their fate isn’t in their hands at this point. They will need Atalanta to also lose to Cagliari, who are in danger of relegation as well as to beat the Diavolo on the final matchday.
Whilst La Dea losing to Cagliari is hard to see that actually happening, Fiorentina themselves have a great chance to beat Milan, who have been in bad form as of late. The Diavolo had a great chance to earn a Champions League spot by winning the Coppa Italia, but lost 4-0 to Juventus. They sit in sixth spot after drawing 1-1 with Atalanta, but have won just two of their last 10. Nonetheless, they’re safely into European competition for next season, so have really little to play for at this point.
Milan have picked up just one win from their last five at this ground and even lost 1-0 to Benevento here, making them the first team to lose outright on home turf to Le Streghe all season. Fiorentina, meanwhile, have lost just one of their last seven on the road, and have won four of their last five, which bodes well for their chances.
AC Milan vs Fiorentina: Head-to-head (h2h)

- Fiorentina have lost just one of their last seven away games
- AC Milan have failed to win nine of their last 12 encounters with Fiorentina, after sharing a 1-1 draw earlier this term
AC Milan vs Fiorentina: Prediction
Despite spending big, Milan have not done well this season. Their team have really failed to click at the right time and they have not done well against top flight opposition, disappointing in the league, failing to make inroads in the Europa League when the opposition got tough (against Arsenal, for example), and being humiliated by Juventus in the Coppa Italia. They have won just twice in their last 13 games against the top eight in Serie A this season and notably were disgraced to lose 1-0 to Benevento at home. In fact, they were the first to drop points on the road against Benevento as well.
As such, Fiorentina, who have beaten Napoli recently, should be able to earn at least a point against a Milan side who seem to be somewhat indifferent at the moment.
