Middlesbrough vs Rotherham United
English League Championship
Date: Tuesday, 23rd October 2018
Kick-off at 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
Venue: Riverside Stadium (Middlesbrough).
Middlesbrough took the top spot last round and intends to keep it. On the road to their target though comes Rotherham United. Will the Millers be able to slip their hosts from the top spot?
Middlesbrough used the defeat Derby County inflicted on Sheffield Untied and took the top spot on goal difference. Tony Pulis knows how to play in this league and his way of play starts to give his team an edge. Middlesbrough doesn’t shine with some fancy moves or attacks but the team operates as a unit and has by far the best defensive record in the league. This coupled with a decent attack and we got a recipe for success. It may not be beautiful but it looks effective.
On Friday the Riverside team took a difficult away victory at Hillsborough. Following a goalless first half with only 1 shot on target for both sides Middlesbrough took a 2-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Sheffield tried to pick themselves up but only scored a consolation goal as Adam Reach hit a beautiful volley near the end of the game.
Rotherham United obviously struggles to keep their heads over the water but so far they have a 2 point cushion over the relegation zone. The main problem comes down to their visits. They haven’t won a single point away from home and this may put them in danger.
Rotherham took a point on Saturday in an even game at home against Bolton Wanderers. All the action happened in the second half as Magennis missed a penalty in the opening minutes of the second half. Soon after Vaulks gave the home side the lead just for Doidge to level the score 5 minutes before the end.
