Mexico vs Russia
Date: Saturday, 24th June 2017
Kick-off at 16:00 UK/ 17:00 CET
Venue: Kazan Arena (Kazan).
It is virtually a knockout game for Russia when they take on Mexico for the final group game on Saturday.
The 1-0 defeat against Portugal created a must win situation for Russia when they taken on Mexico. Stanislav Cherchesov’s side were played out of the park by the Portuguese on Wednesday and failed to register a single shot on target. Moreover, their defense was all over the places and consider themselves lucky to have avoided a humiliating defeat.
Their struggle against Portugal’s hard tackling midfield was evident. If that is the case, they are bound to struggle against Mexico as well.
The only thing that could work in favour of the host nation is the wobbly defense of Mexico, but to put them to test, the battle must be won in the midfield.
Mexico has one foot in the semifinals after a spirited display against New Zealand. They went down 1-0 at half time, but thanks to Javier Aquino’s brilliance which paved way to two second half goals. The CONCACAF champions sit at the top of the Group A, level on 4 points with Portugal. However, they will be eliminated if Russia bag a win at Kazan, considering Portugal will remain unbeaten against New Zealand.

Mexico vs Russia: Prediction
Russia have no choice, but to attack. Their best chance of qualifying for the semifinal is with a victory. Therefore, expect them to go on the attacking front as early as possible, which might leave some holes in their defense as well.
Mexico have already scored 2 goals each is their first two games. But the Gold Cup champions didn’t look convincing at back in their previous two group games. Their strength is their attacking trio and Juan Carlos Osorio will be placing his faith on the same.
Considering all these factors, this match is expected to see a minimum of 3 goals.
