Mexico vs Jamaica
2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup
Date: 14th July 2017, Friday.
Kick-off at 3:30 UK/ 4:30 CET
Venue: Sports Authority Field at Mile High (Denver).
Teams eye quarter final berth as Jamaica and Mexico lock horns in the final game of match-day 2 in Gold Cup Group C.
Having won their opening group game, both teams need a point to confirm their place in the quarter finals of the tournament.
Mexico moved to the top of the group C following their 3-1 win over El Salvador on match-day 1. While Jamaica, who bagged a 2-0 victory against the new boys Curacao remain at second due to fewer goals scored.
The El Tri entered this tournament with a young squad due to a busy summer and the World Cup 2018 tournaments in Russia on sight. They had a moderate run at the Confederations Cup earlier in June and the head-coach Juan Carlos Osorio decided to bring a team composed of players from domestic league to the continental competition in the United States. This team is way too inexperienced with just four players taking part in 10 or more international matches.
Meanwhile, Jamaica are a team in transition period. The team has a new head-coach in Theodore Whitmore, who made 120 appearance for national team. This team is also relatively young, retaining just 8 players from the Winfried Schafer era.
Mexico vs Jamaica: Head-to-head
As one would expect, Mexico have an excellent h2h record against Jamaica, having won 14 of 19 duels since 1965. Jamaica managed just 2 wins during the period, none of which came outside their home soil.
At the Gold Cups, Mexico won all the six previous meetings against Jamaica. Five of them came inside the regular 90 minutes, with one match in 1998 going into extra-time.
Mexico vs Jamaica: Prediction
Both teams are inexperienced at this level. But Mexico are certainly the more talented with a number of player raising through the ranks in a tough Liga MX. But, do not underestimate the Jamaicans, they know well that they are huge underdogs and therefore this team is expected play for the crowd.
