Mexico vs El Salvador
2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup
Date: 10th July 2017, Monday.
Kick-off at 2:00 UK/ 3:00 CET
Venue: Qualcomm Stadium (San Diego).
Mexico start their defense of Gold Cup at the Qualcom stadium against El Salvador on Sunday evening.
The El Tri are having a busy summer as they are in action within two weeks following their disappointing Confederations Cup campaign. The head-coach Juan Carlos Osorio opted on an inexperienced squad for the continental tournament, with only six players in squad having made more than 10 appearance in national colors. However, Mexico are expected to get through the group stage without any trouble.
On the other hand, El Salvador have fallen from limelight in recent years. They were once ranked 49th by FIFA, but now they are positioned at 103. Nor do they have the quality like they once used to have, but also the collective performances on field gives little hope. This team has won just twice in their 21 matches since 2015.
Mexico vs El Salvador: Head-to-head
The El Tri are coming on the back of a six match winning streak against El Salvador in all competitions.
Interestingly, none of the 16 meetings between the two sides since 1970 ended in a draw. Mexico have 12 wins to their name, while El Salvador were victorious in 4.
Also, Mexico won their two meetings in Gold Cup, but the most recent one has to be dated back to 2002.
Mexico vs El Salvador: Predictions
This Mexico squad is composed of players from domestic league and are inexperienced at this level. But they are expected to face little pressure from a team like El Salvador. Nonetheless, the El Tri have plenty of youngsters looking to break into the first team. So they are likely to give their best in every match of the competition.
