Marseille vs Montpellier: Preview and Predictions

Marseille vs Montpellier-Ligue 1 Predictions-8th April 2018

Marseille vs Montpellier
France – Ligue 1
Date: Sunday, 8th April 2018
Kick off at 20:00 UK/ 21:00 CET
Venue: Stade Velodrome (Marseille)

Marseille have a tough week ahead of them as their Europa League hopes dangle by a thread and they have the 2nd leg of that match just four days after this game and that will surely be on their mind.

They are in 3rd place and have had a solid season as they try to keep that position for a chance to play in next season’s Champions League. However Lyon are just two points adrift of them and that will be an interesting battle to watch.

Fans will have become restless as Marseille have gone the last two games at home without a win. First the draw against Nantes and then they lost in the final minute in an epic match to Lyon which ended 3-2. It’s time for the home club to step up however the Europa League does seem to have sapped their energy.

Montpellier are in 6th and need the win to keep with the chasing pack for 5th place. The club are on a 5 game unbeaten streak but it is important to understand that 4 of those matches have been draws. But they are unbeaten away from home in their last 4 games and have in fact lost just 3 games on the road all season. They were very impressive last weekend in their 3-1 win away to tricky Caen.

Marseille vs Montpellier: Head to Head

  • Montpellier have not won at this ground in 4 years
  • Home or away both teams have scored in the last 3 meetings

Marseille vs Montpellier: Prediction

This game should be quite explosive and Marseille will be asked many questions. The Europa League game is their season and if they dropped points here it wouldn’t be the end of the world, especially if Lyon drop points in the earlier game. Both teams to score is the main bet here once again.

Marseille vs Montpellier: Bet Tips

  • Both teams to score at 1.80
  • Highest scoring half: 1st half at 3.10.

  1. 1-0 away from home is hardly “dangling by a thread”
