Marseille vs Monaco
French Ligue 1
Date: Sunday, 15th January, 2017
Kick off at 20:00 UK/ 21:00 CET
Venue: Stade Velodrome, Marseille.
The game of the weekend in Ligue 1 will be between Marseille and Monaco on Sunday evening and every football fan in France will be tuned to this match. Marseille are currently the best team in France on form with 4 wins and one draw from their past five games.
After a slow start to the season, the team from the south have really picked themselves up and reinvented their style of play which has seen the club go from the bottom half of the table to 6th position on 30 points. They are now equal with Guingamp and will want to set their sights on 4th position and Lyon who are four points the better of them.
The only question mark over Marseille’s recent performances is that they have been against teams lower than them and they haven’t with all respect had to face a quality team in that time. However we must respect their home record where they are yet to lose a game at Stade Velodrome, only Nice and PSG also have this record.
If Nice lose this weekend and Monaco pull off a win here they would go top of Ligue 1. Monaco were shaken up at home recently as they lost 3-1 to Lyon but otherwise have been in solid form. They bounced back with a nervy 2-1 win at home to Caen and in the Coupe de France achieved another narrow 2-1 win over Ajaccio.
Marseille vs Monaco: Head to Head Stats

Marseille vs Monaco: Prediction
Both clubs will understand what is at stake and we should see a very quiet but tense first half open up to an exciting second half where we may see mistakes and more space on the field. This game will tell us if Marseille are serious or just the league pretenders.
