Manchester United vs Sevilla: Preview and Predictions

Manchester United vs Sevilla
UEFA Champions League
Date: Tuesday, 13th March 2018
Kick-off at 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
Venue: Old Trafford (Manchester).

Manchester United were lucky to escape with a goal-less draw at Seville three weeks ago. But, they will take the field at Old Trafford on Tuesday as strong favorites to maul the La Liga side from Andalusia, who are normally poor in away games.

United picked up three wins on the bounce since the goal-less draw at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. Two of those came against the domestic heavy weights Chelsea and Liverpool and the other a dramatic comeback win from 2 goals down against the tricky Crystal Palace. These three results raised the team spirit and confidence, in the midst a lot of criticism surrounding Mourinho’s defensive tactics and an underperforming Paul Pogba.

Sevilla on the other hand, are coming on the back of a 0-2 home defeat to Valencia on Saturday. This is their second defeat in the space of four games which resulted in opening an 11-point gap for Champions League qualification race. Furthermore, Vincenzo Montella will find it hard to motivate his team, who are poor in away games even by the Spanish LaLiga standards.

Manchester United vs Sevilla: Prediction

Many expect this match to be a tight one, but I will differ that as I see Manchester United racing to a comfortable victory in this Tuesday’s Champions League fixture.

The reasons are plenty, but the prominent one is their strong home record at the Old Trafford. Moreover, there has been 13 clean-sheets kept from the 20 home games in all competitions. And only Manchester City and Burnley are the team that had scored more than 1-goal at this stadium.

Sevilla do not have a good record in the Champions League. Moreover, their away record in the competition this season is underwhelming. The 5-1 humiliating defeat at Spartak Moscow and 1-1 draw at Maribor make strong case for their struggles on the road.
