Manchester United vs Aston Villa
English Premier League
Date: 30 April 2023, Sunday
Kick-off at 14:00 UK / 15:00 CET
Venue: Old Trafford (Manchester).
Manchester United will continue their congested schedule on Sunday afternoon when they host top-six rivals Aston Villa in one of the most exciting games of Matchday No 34 at the Old Trafford.
The Red Devils snapped their three-win run in the league with a 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday night in the capital.
Erik ten Hag and his players will be unsatisfied with a point from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium knowing they had a two-goal lead and were generally a better team on the pitch.
United are now fourth in the league standings, sitting two points below Newcastle in third and six points above Aston Villa in sixth.
This is still a huge advantage for the Red Devils as they own a couple of games in hand on Villa. However, a potential defeat here may complicate things for ten Hag and his troops.
Getting a result against the Lions will be anything but an easy task for the hosts, though. Aston Villa are flying high under Unai Emery who has done miracles since taking over Steven Gerrard on the bench.
The Lions are one of the hottest teams in the league with a streak of eight wins and two draws in the previous ten rounds.
They continued their superb defensive showings on Tuesday night, keeping Fulham scoreless in a 1-0 victory at Villa Park.
Manchester United vs Aston Villa Head-to-head
- Aston Villa saw off Manchester United 3-1 in the reverse game in the league in November last year but Manchester United got their revenge just four days later with a 4-2 victory in the third round of the FA Cup at the Old Trafford.
- We’ve seen at least four goals in each of the previous four head to head meetings between the two sides.
- Manchester United have been the dominant force historically with 57 wins, 18 draws, and only 11 defeats in the previous 86 home clashes against the Lions.
Manchester United vs Aston Villa Prediction
Aston Villa have conceded just three goals in the past ten Premier League games and they will represent a tough nut to crack for the Red Devils on Sunday. When you add that Manchester United played 120 minutes of the FA Cup semifinal against Brighton seven days ago and 90 tough minutes in a 2-2 stalemate to Spurs three days ago, we can say fatigue may also play a big role here.
The value is great with the visitors who are 2.05 to leave the Old Trafford unbeaten while we also fancy the Under 2.5 goals FT pick at the odds of 2.20 despite the high-scoring H2H trend in recent years.
