Manchester United are apparently desperate to sign a new striker in January and they are prepared to table a £50m bid for the in-form Everton striker Romeu Lukaku in January, according to the reports by Italian publication Tutomercatoweb.
Lukaku is having a terrific run in the English Premier League this season and have scored 12 goals in 15 appearances so far this season. The 22-year old Belgian international is also the second highest goal scorer in the league this season, two behind Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy.
The ex-Chelsea striker signed for Everton on July 2014 for for a record transfer fee of £28 million, after impressing at the Goodison Park on a season-long loan. Everton has already shown in this summer that they are not willing to part company with any of their key players and have successfully kept Chelsea at bay in their repeated attempts to sign highly rated defender John Stones.
There are also constant rumours hinting a massive bid for Barcelona striker Neymar in the New Year and a pottential move for Tottenham’s Harry Kane; but these targets seems to be distant at the moment.
On the other hand, the United boss is a subject of severe scrutiny from a large portion of fans as well as media pundits for his boring playing style. Among the positives, the Red Devils are the best defensive side in the league so far and they could still get things right with the welcome addition of a genuine number nine in January.
Another headache for the Dutch boss will be the current injury crisis, with the likes of with Chris Smalling, Matteo Darmian, Antonio Valenica, Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw and Phil Jones all sidelined.
According to reports from A Bola, Man United boss is looking to move for Portuguese defender Nelson Monte in the January transfer window. The 20-year old Rio Ave player, who graduated from Benfica youth academy is a versatile player who can play on the center as well as right of the defense.
Meanwhile, reports also suggest that United scouts are watching the highly rated Belgian midfielder Youri Tielemans. The 18-year, who made his Champions League debut at the age of 16 has been named Belgium’s young player of the year twice. According to the report by Mirror, Manchester United are are considering a £30 million bid, but they have to deal with the interests from Chelsea, Manchester City, Everton and Aston Villa.
