Manchester United legend and former England international blasts the side’s style of play under Louis Van Gaal by stating that the team has no quality or attacking movement.
Talking to BT Sport on the aftermath of Manchester United’s 1-1 draw against CSKA Moskva in Wednesday’s Champions League night the former Red Devils midfielder was seem commenting:
“You look at the United team, there is no quality, no movement. People are not running, Is it the way they are told to play?”
Paul Scholes, who twice won the competition with Manchester United also took a swipe at Van Gaal’s tactics and criticized the midfield line behind England’s leading goalscorer Wayne Rooney.
“It’s all safety playing across the pitch. I can’t remember a pass in to Rooney. There is no movement.”
“You’ve got midfield players who can run – Ander Herrera, Jesse Lingaard, Anthony Martial – stick the ball into Rooney and run but there’s not one of them even thinking of running.” he added.
Manchester United must consider themselves lucky after Anthony Martial’s superb goal put them level after going a goal behind in the first half. David De Gea also came into the party to deny the Russians a much deserved win against their much glamorous English opponents.
Manchester United are second in Group B of the UEFA Champions League level on 4 points with third placed CSKA and 2 points a-drift from leaders Wolfsburg. Their next tie is at home at Old Trafford to CSKA Moscow on 3rd November 2015.
They continue their exploits in English Premier League this weekend, when they host Manchester City at Old Trafford in an early kick-off on Sunday afternoon.
