Manchester City vs Sheffield United
England – Premier League
Date: Saturday, 30 January 2021
Kick-off at 15:00 UK/ 16:00 CET
Venue: Etihad Stadium.
The Citizens have easily been the best team in the whole competition this season. They did start their campaign slow, but as of now they are at the top of the table, and that too with a game in hand.
They also have conceded the least number of goals so far – just 13, and note that only Tottenham have managed to keep the number of conceded goals below 20.
This weekend, Pep Guardiola’s men have a great opportunity to extend their lead, as they are at home, and are pitted against the worst team in the PL – the dead-last placed Blades.
Moreover, the second-placed Red Devils are pitted against the Gunners this weekend, and the fourth-placed Hammers are locking horns with the fifth-placed Reds.
By all means, a win this weekend will result in the Citizens strengthening their hold over the whole English top flight.
In addition, as mentioned earlier, Chris Wilder’s men are the worst of the lot, and are prime contenders to get relegated at the end of the season. Moreover, they also have a poor h2h record against this rival over the years.
As such, expect an easy win for Manchester City at their home.
Manchester City vs Sheffield United: Head-to-head (h2h)
- Pep’s men had recorded ten of the former fourteen overall wins.
- They had kept clean sheets in eight of the past eleven clashes.
- At this venue, the hosts have a 100% unbeaten record in the last three decades.
- Since 1991, not once have the visitors scored a goal here.
Manchester City vs Sheffield United Prediction
Guardiola’s men had recorded a 0-5 win on the road the last match-day, against West Brom. In the meantime, the Blades registered a 1-2 win on the road against Manchester United.
Going on, the Citizens are on an 11-match winning run, and were unbeaten in 32 of their previous 35 fixtures. They are also on a winning run at home since September, barring two draws, and have scored heavily in the process.
On the other hand, their counterparts were winless in 20 of their preceding 24 fixtures, and remained so in 16 of their former 20 road trips.
In addition, Pep’s men also have a 100% unbeaten record in h2h clashes at this venue since 1990.
Considering these observations, expect Manchester City to post three easy points on the board.
