Manchester City can expect a tough test from Monaco in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16, as the Ligue 1 outfit are coming on the back of a 12-match unbeaten run.
The Citizens were not as convincing in the group stages and managed to qualify to the knockout stages despite winning just two matches. The 4-0 win against Borussia Monchengladbach on match day 1 and the 3-1 drubbing of Barcelona were the standout moments during that period.
Pep Guardiola’s side are coming on the back of a disappointing 0-0 draw against Championship outfit Huddersfield in the weekend FA Cup fixture. Otherwise, they have been in good touch winning in all their previous 4 matches. They are second in the Premier League table, 8 points below league leaders Chelsea.
Manchester City can boast of an excellent record at the Etihad. Their lone defeat in 16 matches in all competitions came in the league clash against Chelsea. While they won in 10 and drew 5. They scored in every home match this season and average 2 goals per game.
Monaco are sitting on top of the Ligue 1 table, but there is only a 3-point gap between them, Nice and PSG. They are coming on the back of some excellent run which saw them pick up 11 wins and 2 draws from the last 13 matches in all competitions.
The French team started their Champions League campaign from the third qualifying round. They overcame Fenerbahce and Villarreal to make it into the group stage. Monaco finished top of their group ahead of Bayer Leverkusen, Tottenham and CSKA Moscow to reach the knock out stages.
