Manchester City vs Leicester City
English Premier League
Date: Sunday, 27 September 2020
Kick-off at 16:30 UK/ 17:30 CET
Venue: Etihad Stadium.
The Foxes are tormented by the way they bottled their CL ticket the last season. They were on course to finish in one of the podium spots even into the final weeks, when they started to drop points in every other game.
And by the time the campaign came to an end, the team could not even finish in the top-four, and thus had to settle for a Europa League entry.
They are determined to not let anything of that sort happen this time around, and have made a strong start to their run. They are at the top of the table with a 100% winning record, and have also scored the most number of goals so far.
However, their greatest test awaits this weekend. They are running into one of the two best teams in England – the Citizens.
Pep Guardiola needs the title this season, period. He just cannot let Jurgen Klopp run away with another PL crown, which would be a stain on the Spanish gaffer’s legacy.
He knows how points dropped early in the 2019-20 campaign led to the ultimate demise of his title aspirations – and at no cost will he let that happen. The manager will have his hands full with the Foxes this Sunday, but should he able to record a win this weekend – that would be a statement towards Liverpool.
Considering the form of the Citizens, their determination to snatch the title back from the Reds, and their superior h2h record against Brendan Rodgers’s men – expect a Manchester City win this Sunday.
Manchester City vs Leicester City: Head-to-head (h2h)
- Pep’s men are on a three-match winning run against this opponent.
- They had also recorded 11 of the former 14 overall wins.
- At home, they are on a four-game winning run.
- It’s been four years since the guests have last won at this stadium.
Manchester City vs Leicester City: Prediction
The Citizens won 1-3 on the road the last match-day, against Wolves (one of the best teams the last season). In the meantime, Rodgers’s men recorded a 4-2 win at home the past game week in the league against Burnley.
However, the Foxes did lose their Carabao Cup fixture after that against Arsenal, via a 0-2 scorecard.
Going on, they were also winless in 16 of their preceding 23 overall match-ups, and remained so in eight of their last ten road trips. In fact, despite their two wins in the PL, they have been struggling some time to find form, and against a quality team like that of Guardiola’s men, they are expected to struggle.
On the contrary, their opposite number had won 15 of their latest 20 games, and they had also won eight of their preceding nine appearances at home.
On top of all that, they also do have a phenomenal h2h record against the Foxes – especially recently.
Taking into account these stats, expect a Manchester City win this Sunday.
