Mallorca vs Granada
Spain – LaLiga
Date: Thursday, 16 July 2020
Kick-off at 20:00 UK/ 21:00 CET
Venue: Visit Mallorca Estadi.
Both teams are desperate for points. For Diego Martinez’s men, it’s their last chance to make it to Europe, while for their counterparts, it’s a battle of survival.
To put it clearly – the Nazaries are placed tenth in the table at present, and have a total of 50 points against their name. They need a seventh-place finish at the least, in order to take part in the Europa Qualifiers – and they need a surplus of four points from the remaining two games.
As such, they are going to need all six points on offer from the rest of the campaign. Meanwhile, their counterparts are placed 19th in the table, on the verge of being relegated. They have 32 points so far from their 36 fixtures, and will need to overcome a deficit of four points to avoid the boot.
In short, either squad will be hell-bent on securing the win, and coupled with the high pressure, it’s the right recipe for a goal-fest.
Mallorca vs Granada: Head-to-head (h2h)
- Martinez’s men recorded a 1-0 win in the reverse fixture.
- They have also registered the last three wins, and four of the past five.
- Only once have they failed to score against this rival in the past decade.
- Five of the former eight games had goals from both teams.
- The guests have a 100% unbeaten record at this stadium.
Mallorca vs Granada: Prediction
Vicente Moreno’s men lost 2-0 on the road the last match-day, against Sevilla. Meanwhile, Martinez’s men lost 1-2 at home against Real Madrid.
As things stand, it’s obvious that the teams are coming to the game with a do-or-die attitude. A loss or draw would do no extra harm to them, while a victory could take them closer to their objectives. Be assured that we are about to witness 90 minutes of attacking football.
Considering the desperation of either squad, the pressure they are under, and the sorry state of defense from both sides (especially that of the relegation-battler; Moreno’s men), expect a lot of goals this Thursday.
In terms of result though, understand that Martinez’s men are gunning for the European spots, while their opposite number are one of the worst teams in the competition, and are trying to avoid relegation.
Moreover, the Nazaries also had won the reverse fixture, are unbeaten against this rival since 2013, and have a 100% unbeaten record in such clashes at this venue.
Taking into account these observations, expect Granada to avoid a loss at the least.
