Lyon v Bordeaux
French Ligue 1
Date: Saturday, 10th September
Kick Off: 16:00 BST
Venue: Parc Olympique Lyonnais (Lyon).
It was shock horror for Lyon in week 3 of the Ligue 1 season when their impressive start came crashing down at newcomers Dijon. But it was the way they lost the match that surprised many by conceding 4 goals in a 4-2 loss. Dijon deserved their win. Lyon manager Bruno Genesio has a few headaches ahead of this clash. Both Emanuel Mammana and Olivier Kemen won’t play as they are suspended. Promising forward Maxwel Cornet is struggling to make the game. This adds to the longer term injuries of influential players Nabil Fekir and Manuel Valbuena. The good news is that Lyon has been in talks to extend Alexandre Lacazette’s contract.
Bordeaux have been great at home with two wins from 2 but away they have struggled already with a heavy 4-1 loss to Toulouse. Jeremy Toulalan suffered a thigh injury a few weeks ago but it seems that the influential player has a decent chance to play some part in this game.
Lyon v Bordeaux Head to Head:
It’s been 4 years and three matches since Bordeaux recorded a win in Lyon- although of course this is a new stadium if that makes any difference. Last season Lyon recorded an easy 3-0 win. In all fixtures Bordeaux have only won 3 matches from the past 10 games. Lyon has won 50% of these matches.
Lyon v Bordeaux Prediction:
The international break came at a good time for Lyon after losing to Dijon, they can regroup and wipe the slate clean. The problem for them is that they come into this match with a few injuries and doubts. Bordeaux are almost full strength. It’s even possible that Lacazette may not play the full match as Lyon has one eye on their Champions League match next week.
It’s possible that Bordeaux can get something in this match. The handicap on Bordeaux isn’t a great price but it is worth the risk, Lyon come into this match wounded and missing players and has one eye on their European game.
