Luxembourg vs Serbia
Euro 2020 Qualification
Date: Tuesday, 10 September 2019
Kick off at 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
Venue: Stade Josy Barthel (Luxembourg).
Luxembourg are currently 3rd in the UEFA Euro 2020 Qualifying Group B with the W-D-L record of 1-1-2. They have beaten Lithuania 2-1 at home, drew 1-1 in Vilnius and suffered two narrow defeats vs Ukraine (1-2h, 0-1a).
The Luxembourgish football is on the rise with perennial champs F91 Dudelange leading the way with two straight appearances in the Europa League Group Stages, and the National Team is getting better every year.
Serbia has the same record as Luxembourg, but they’re placed below due to goal difference. The ‘Eagles’ have suffered second group loss on Saturday against Portugal (2-4) in Belgrade and with eleven conceded goals thus far, they have the leakiest defence in the group.
Dusan Tadic started rather well and looked like a slightly better team for solid 30 minutes, then goal happened, out of nowhere, and changed the game completely. Now the automatic qualification looks like a pipe dream.
Luxembourg vs Serbia: Head to Head
This will be their first ever meeting.
Luxembourg vs Serbia: Prediction
Luxembourg are not a team that sits back, they want to play football and I find that really encouraging when I’m picking both teams to score, and that’s what I’m going to do here, along with an away win.
Tuesday’s hosts took 25 shots and bagged two against Lithuania, scored one and played an even game versus Ukraine (13-16 shots) and they even got on the score sheet at home against the likes of Netherlands (1-3) and France (1-3) in FIFA WC 2018 Qualifiers.
Serbia should win, though, as they have much better team, and I’m counting on Tadic to deliver some moments of magic.
We should also see more attacking line up than the one that faced Portugal, possible with Milinkovic-Savic (Lazio) and/or Luka Jovic (Real Madrid) in starting XI.
