Luxembourg vs Portugal Prediction
Luxembourg succumbed to their fifth straight defeat in the qualifiers last week after Serbia did just enough at home to post a 3-2 scorecard. Despite showing signs of promise with ten attempts at goal, four of which were right on target, the hosts were outclassed by the Serbs who managed seventeen shots of their own.
It is also worth noting that Luxembourg’s only win so far on home soil, came against rock bottom side Lithuania. At the moment, the home side on a two-match losing streak here. The reverse fixture of this matchup did not end too kindly for Luxembourg either as the visitors were able to post an emphatic 3-0 victory.
On the other hand, Portugal reiterated their intentions of grabbing a ticket to the finals by running riot over Lithuania in their most recent matchup. The visitors slotted six unanswered goals past them, half of which, came courtesy of their own talisman and skipper Cristiano Ronaldo.
Furthermore, the away side’s only stumbled so far was against current table-toppers Ukraine, that too by no more than a narrow 2-1 margin. With Luxembourg admitting defeat in their recent h2h clashes here as well, the visitors are more than likely to be too hot to handle for the hosts come Sunday.
Additionally, apart from bagging the win, the away side have not been shy in racking up the goals tally. Their skipper, in particular, is just one goal away from topping the goal scoring charts and has netted four of Portugal’s last seven goals as well.
The visitors have also scored ten goals from their previous three trips on the road alone. With Portugal netting thrice last time around too, it is certainly well within reason to expect a high scoring clash to unfold.
