Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur
England – Premier League
Date: Sunday, 4 February 2018
Kick-Off at 16:30 UK
Venue: Anfield (Liverpool).
Tottenham dispatched Manchester United 2-0 win ease on Wednesday evening to make it nine consecutive matches without a defeat in all competitions. Christian Eriksen was the one who bagged the opener in the very first minute to net his seventh goal of the campaign, but the Danish midfielder will likely skip the trip to Anfield due to the injury he suffered against the Red Devils. Can the Spurs see off another top four rivals this weekend?
Mauricio Pochettino’s side is about to tackle a whole different philosophy here. They’ve done well against Mourinho’s defensive approach in mdi-week, but they will come face to face with Jurgen Klopp’s attacking mentality this time around and Spurs’ defensive line will be on a massive test here.
Liverpool have ended the unpleasant two-loss streak with an easy straightforward game against Huddersfield Town on Tuesday. Emre Can, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah scored goals in a comprehensive 0-3 victory at The John Smith’s Stadium. Salah has thus taken his league tally to 19 goals and it will be very interesting to see if he can overtake Tottenham’s Harry Kane in the Premier League’s top goalscorers list on Sunday.
Kane’s tally is higher by two goals as he notched six in last five league ties. The English striker will clearly have plenty of space to deliver in the final third against the vulnerable defensive line of Liverpool’s. The Reds have allowed three goals in a shocking FA Cup loss to West Bromwich Albion at Anfield and we just can’t see them stopping the like of Harry Kane this time out.
Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur: Head-to-head
Tottenham have a rather poor record in the history of matches at Anfield.
The Spurs have won no more than 6 of 76 matches in Liverpool.
Pochettino’s men have demolished the Reds 4-1 when the two teams met in mid-October last year at Wembley (Kane notched a brace).
Liverpool have won each of last two H2H meetings at Anfield.
Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur: Prediction
With such firepower on display (league’s top two scorers), it’s impossible to expect anything but a high-scoring contest here.
BTTS should thus be a banker bet at 1.53. We will also take Harry Kane to score anytime past the struggling defense of Liverpool’s at the odds of 2.05 since he was pretty inspired in the first game between these two sides in this term of Premier League.
