Form-wise and in regards to home advantage, Liverpool are the favorites for this game. However, in view of the sheer weight of this rivalry, between the two best clubs in English history, sparks are expected at both ends of the Anfield pitch this Sunday.

Liverpool vs Manchester United Match Preview

Liverpool are on course to deliver the first title in the Premier League era, and by the looks of things, they may even challenge the total haul of 20 by United in the next season.

Even more hurtful is the fact that the Reds might be able to grab a hold of a Golden Premier League trophy, considering the unbeaten run they have been on for the whole of this campaign.

The Devils will be hell-bent on making life tougher for Jurgen Klopp and his men, and if, just if they could dole out the first defeat for Liverpool, denying them a chance to emulate the Invincible season by Arsenal, loyal Manchester United fans would consider their season a triumph.

On the other hand, the Reds have won all of their games so far in the PL competition, except their trip to Old Trafford. This translates to – Liverpool could have boasted a 100% winning record in the league, instead of a 100% unbeaten record, if not for the 1-1 draw against their arch rivals.

Klopp and his boys will try to make sure that United are not able to pull the double over them (of making Liverpool drop points).

Liverpool vs Manchester United Head-to-head (h2h)

  • The last time these two met, spoils were shared with a 1-1 scorecard.
  • Four of the former five games had goals from both teams.
  • The last time these two met at this venue, Liverpool had won 3-1.
  • United were able to score a total of just one goal from their last four visits to this stadium.

Liverpool vs Manchester United Prediction

Liverpool were on the road against Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham the last match-day. Even loyal fans expected the Reds to bid goodbye to their unbeaten run, but against tough odds, the Reds managed to secure a 0-1 victory.

In the meantime, United were at home against one of the weakest teams in the league, Norwich, and expectedly, they recorded a huge win, with a 4-0 scoreline.

This Sunday, we are in line for one of the fiercest matches of the whole season. Liverpool have one and only objective – to not let United take points off them. United are dead-set on putting an end to the unbeaten run of the Reds.

Suffice it to say, both teams will take this match as a virtual final, and will conduct game play with as few mistakes as possible. It goes without saying that both teams will definitely concentrate on defense, and will think about goals only when the opportunity presents itself, rather than take risks.

Moreover, Liverpool have kept clean sheets in their last six games on the trot, and have done so in nine of their former eleven fixtures. United have kept clean sheets in their last two games, and in three of their previous four as well.

In addition, at Anfield, Liverpool failed to score in three of the preceding five h2h games, while the Devils failed to score in three of the former four such encounters.

Considering all these observations, it’s inferred that the game will be a low-scoring one, and as such especially the first half, where either team will be testing waters. Likely, expect the first 45 minutes to have not more than one goal.

In regards to result though, Liverpool should just manage to edge out their arch rivals. First of all, they are at home, and will be raring to defeat United, considering they are the only team that have managed to keep the Reds from scoring three points in any game-week this whole season.

Moreover, Liverpool have won 31 of their last 35 games, and 12 of their last 13. Their only loss since September had come against Aston Villa in the EFL Cup, when essentially the U-23 squad of the team lined up, as the main players were busy with the Club World Cup.

On the other hand, United were winless in three of their previous five match-ups, and were so in six of their prior eight road trips. Keep note that Manchester United were also winless in 11 of their previous 16 matches on the road.

Finally, the Reds were unbeaten in the prior four h2h fixtures, and have scored thrice or more against this opponent in two of the last four such games. Also, in the last four years, only once have Jurgen Klopp’s men lost against this opponent.

Considering all these observations, it’s estimated that Liverpool should just do enough on the pitch to post a narrow win this Sunday.
