Liverpool vs Arsenal
English Premier League
Date: Monday, 28 September 2020
Kick-off at 20:00 UK/ 21:00 CET
These two teams have a huge history and have been two of the greatest teams in the PL since its inception. And expectedly they also have a fierce rivalry dating back to the 20th century.
However, fortunes have been different for either team in the past few years. While the Reds have managed to climb back to the top of the hill in England, the Gunners are still struggling to keep hold of their status as a top-four prospect.
The 2020-21 campaign has seen both teams begin on a positive note, with wins in the first two match-days. That surely will come to an end for at least one of these two, as they lock horns at the Anfield this Monday.
Judging the offensive potential of both squads, the determination of either to bring back their glory days, and finally the sheer rivalry between the sides – expect a fierce clash filled with goals.
Liverpool vs Arsenal: Head-to-head (h2h)
- The last time these two met on the pitch, Mikel Arteta’s men recorded a win via penalties in the FA Community Shield. This defeat certainly hurt Jurgen Klopp and his men.
- Before that, the Gunners had defeated this opponent in the league, in the final phase of the previous season. Thus they became one of the few teams to beat the Reds in the last campaign.
- At Anfield, the hosts are on a four-match winning run.
- In fact, it’s been 12 years since the guests have been able to secure a victory here.
Liverpool vs Arsenal: Prediction
Klopp’s men recorded a 0-2 win on the road the last match-day, against Chelsea. This was a confidence-boosting victory for the Reds as it had come on the road (they were lately having some troubles in away fixtures), and against a top-four team as well.
In the meantime, Arteta’s men registered a 2-1 win at home against West Ham. They are in fact on an eight-game winning run, and had also won ten of their past eleven fixtures.
They had also defeated Klopp’s men in the past two h2h meetings, and secured a trophy against them the last month (Community Shield). Going on, the Gunners are also on a three-fixture winning run on the road, and the latest of the stretch had come against Leicester.
Meanwhile, the Reds have been the best team in the country for the past two years, and they are determined to defend their title this year. They also have a great h2h record against this rival at this stadium.
In fact, the six-time European champions are on a four-match winning run in such meetings at this ground, and they also have been unbeaten at home in the last eight years against this opponent.
By all means, expect a fierce encounter between the two. Neither team likes to play defensive games, and it should be a ninety-minute long treat for whoever likes all-out-attack football.
Expect a goal-fest this Monday.
