Liverpool have made a £30m offer to Shakhtar Donetsk to open talks for the signing of attacking midfielder Alex Teixeira.
Teixeira is linked with a move towards Chelsea since a while, now Liverpool are looking to hijack any potential deals for the 26-year old player.
According to the reports in The Sun, Liverpool’s CEO Ian Ayre met the Shakthar officials in Florida, where the team currently on their winter training camp.
If the deal goes ahead, Alex Teixeira will be Jurgen Klopp’s first major signing since replacing Brenden Rodgers as Liverpool boss in October.
As per earlier reports, the Ukrainian outfit is holding out for a £48million fee for the player, which is the major reason why Chelsea’s interested has cooled off in the last few days.
The Brazilian has already made it clear that he wants to move to a bigger club with a preference to play in England as it increases his chance of getting called up to play for the national squad.
Both Chelsea and Liverpool have their troubles in front of goal this season and found themselves surprisingly outside the top four in the English Premier League table.
Teixeira has been in brilliant form scoring 22 goals in 15 league games this season and three goals in six Champions League appearances.
The Reds are also monitoring the situation of Juventus striker Alvaro Morata, who is reportedly unhappy over the lack of playing time at the Serie A club.
