Lithuania vs Slovakia
World Cup Qualifiers – Europe (Group F)
Date: Saturday, 10th June 2017
Kick-off at 19:45 UK / 20:45 CET
Venue: LFF stadionas, Vilnius.
Group F is all about the second place battle between Slovakia, Slovenia and Scotland as England stand undisputed in the first place. Lithuania’s ambitions and chances are next to zero, while Slovakia seems like a very serious competitor.
Without a doubt, Lithuanian and Maltese national teams can’t compete for the spot in Russia. However, Lithuania started off their campaign pretty solid. Surprisingly, they managed to remain unbeaten in the opening three matches of WC Qualifiers. At first, they drew Slovenia 2-2, followed by another stalemate in Scotland.
Lithuania faced Malta in the penultimate match of 2016 when they managed to register three points. After three-game unbeaten streak, Lithuanians fell twice in a row as Slovakia steamrolled them with 4-0, followed by the first match in 2017 and the 2-0 defeat inflicted by the Albion.
The Slovakian national team is in the second place in Group F with 9 points collected. After the poor start when they were beaten by England and Slovakia (both with 1-0), Slovakia won three games in a row. They beat Scotland, Lithuania and Malta, respectively.
The Vilnius visit is crucial for the Slovakian national squad since it’s almost certain that one of the second-place contenders will manage to grab a victory from Lithuania’s capital. In this campaign, Slovakia were the visiting side twice. They were beaten in Slovenia with the minimal result, while they snatched the full prize on Malta but they were not very convincing.
Lithuania vs Slovakia: Head-to-head
The two sides met five times so far. Lithuania is yet to beat Slovakian national squad. Three games ended without a winner, while Slovakians won twice. The Baltic country scored four goals, while the central Europeans scored 9.
Lithuania vs Slovakia: Prediction
The motivational factor is certainly on the away side as Slovakia is on the solid path to play in Russia 2018. However, Lithuanians seem like a tricky side this season, so we will see a cautious approach by both sides.
