Bayer Leverkusen vs Fortuna Dusseldorf: Match Preview

Bayer 04 have made a flying start to the second half of the season as Die Werkself secured a 4-1 victory away to SC Paderborn with an impressive first-half performance and master class effort from Kevin Volland, who rapid-fired their way to ninth league win.

Leverkusen is still in the contention to get back into Champions League as Peter Bosz’s men sit sixth place on Bundesliga table, with Schalke and Dortmund in a way of their dream; this is more mature Bayer, more contained, ridiculous scorelines are things of the past seasons, these guys are more focused on getting results.

Die Werkself are having bit of a problem at their home ground. Despite having couple of most talented and technically gifted players, they often have hard times breaking down squads who come, sit deep and can counter effectively which resulted in four draws and is basically why they’ve lost to Hertha recently; I guess signing of Exequiel Palacios will solve that…

It was a day to remember (and not by good) for Florian Kastenmeier, who finally got his chance to shine between the sticks but it was ultimately an undoing for his team as he scored an unfortunate own goal which handed the vital points to Fortuna’s direct relegation rivals, Werder Bremen.

It was eleventh defeat of the season for unfortunate Fortunen which push them down as Bremen leapfrogged them, leaving Friedhelm Funkel’s side at 17th; but it is far from over, salvation is still within the grasp as Werder is two points away at relegation play off places with Mainz and safety one step further.

Fortuna hold the inglorious title of the worst away team of the league, with one win and two draws to their name, with the most goals conceded (tied with Werder but Fortuna have played one game less) though the situation isn’t that clear cut; Funkel’s men were on multiple occasions first to take a lead but their lack of mental fortitude let them down hard as they almost always ended up dropping it and allowing a comeback.

Peter Bosz will have most of his men available: Wendell and Charles Aranguiz are long term absentees, Daley Sinkgraven is very close to return and Exequiel Palacios is apparently serving out suspension he earned back in Argentina.

Jean Zimmer, Tim Wiesner and Zackary Thomas Steffen are out for Leverkusen clash while Chelsea’s loanee Lewis Baker and Kenan Karaman are still uncertain.

Bayer Leverkusen vs Fortuna Dusseldorf: Prediction

Well, this one’s gonna be easy…Everything’s pointing toward another boring victory by the favorites. Bayer is in a superb form, going on a high from demolition in Paderborn and usually makes quick work of Fortuna. I believe we’re in for a reprisal.

Second recommendation is a bit riskier but can easily come to pass. Leverkusen prefer to get the job done quickly, score one or two goals and just sit back, relax and just bring the game to an end, occasionally pulling a dangerous counterattack or two. With Fortuna’s leaky defense, it should be more than doable and an ideal scenario for Die Werkself.
