The Red Bulls will be hoping to bounce back from defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt when they host fellow title challengers Borussia Monchengladbach in Saturday’s Bundesliga clash.
RB Leipzig vs Borussia Monchengladbach: Match Preview
The Red Bulls suffered a tough 2-0 defeat away to Eintracht Frankfurt, conceding a wonder goal early in the second half after failing to make their pressure throughout the game pay off, wasting a number of chances to take the early lead, followed by a nail in the coffin right at the end of the game.
That was a tragic end to their unbeaten run and first league defeat for Julian Nagelsmann’ side since November 2nd; Leipzig is still holding out on the top though Bayern got really close with just one point separating the two.
But there’s one more unbeaten streak going for Red Bulls as they’re yet to be beaten in their nest since Schalke got the better of them back in September, with Leipzig racking up five league wins and a draw since then.
Monchengladbach marked their return home in the New Year with an entertaining 3-1 win over 1. FSV Mainz 05 as an Alassane Plea brace and Florian Neuhaus’ wonder strike ensured a come-from-behind victory for Marco Rose’s men.
Back home, back to winning ways for Gladbach as they’ve got their 12th victory of the season following a defeat and a draw on their travels; The Foals, currently at 3rd, aren’t giving up on their title dream just yet since their next rivals are just two points off of them.
Marco Rose’s men have a chance to rob Leipzig of their place at the top but that might be a tough ask for The Prussians away from Borussia-Park as they’ve been pretty much hit or miss on the road; four wins, a draw and four defeats with the latest one coming two weeks ago at Gelsenkirchen.
Marcel Sabitzer, Kevin Kampl, Willi Orban and Ibrahima Konaté are sure absentees for Leipzig and derby v Borussia, with Lukas Klostermann and Luan Cândido coming down the wire. Matheus Cunha is the last one out since he’s still away on international duty with Brazil u23.
Fabian Johnson, Tony Jantschke and Ramy Bensebaini are missing out for the Foals due to injuries; Florian Mayer is close to return but unlikely fit enough to feature with Stefan Lainer rounding up the Borussia’s MIA’s due to suspension.

RB Leipzig vs Borussia Monchengladbach: Prediction
The Red Bulls have proven track record at home this season, winning game after game with ease. Borussia Monchengladbach is powerhouse in their own ground, but they really struggle on the road and considering h2h history, I’m willing to back Leipzig to extend their winning run at Red Bull Arena for at least one more game.
Timo Werner has been in scintillating form this year, pretty much unstoppable and unplayable at times. He’s scored multiple goals in front of his own fans couple of times this season, including the last outing there v Union.
And he seems to go full throttle versus Borussia, as he scored at least two goals twice in last three confrontations. Let’s hope he’ll be his usual self and torture the hell out of Monchengladbach once again.
