RB Leipzig vs Freiburg
Date: Saturday, 14 March 2020
Kick-off at 14:30 UK / 15:30 CET
Venue: Red Bull Arena.
The Red Bulls of Leipzig will be looking to get back on the winning track when they welcome messy but equally unpredictable Freiburg in Saturday’s Bundesliga clash.
RB Leipzig vs Freiburg: Match Preview
After a fantastic performance on Tuesday night, the Red Bulls are through to the Champions League quarter finals as they’ve deservedly beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-0, lead by heroic showings by Emil Forsberg and Marcel Sabitzer, who got on the scoresheet twice.
Back on the domestic soil, things aren’t as great for Julian Nagelsmann’s men as they were overtaken by Borussia Dortmund last week and currently occupy 3rd place at Bundesliga table, five points off the top with their hectic and incredibly difficult schedule coming to an end and Freiburg being first of the upcoming “easier” fixtures for RBL gang.
Despite winning just once in their latest three outings in front of their own fans, Leipzig is ranked among the greatest home sides in the league, with Red Bull Arena being one of the most inhospitable turfs in Germany; RBL hasn’t lost in there since September and before already mentioned draws (versus Monchengladbach and Leverkusen respectively), they were on a five-game winning run, annihilating everyone who’s dared to come their way.
After losing the first two ties this season to the side from the capital, Freiburg eventually overcame Union, deservedly triumphed in game played last Saturday and earned themselves three points to maintain their foothold in the race for continental football.
Red&Blacks are chilling just above the middle of the table, currently at 8th, with a single point staying between them and Europa League they’re trying so hard to avoid considering their recent form and four losses they’ve suffered in last six games before somewhat miraculously beating surprise hit of the season from Berlin.
On the road, Christian Streich’s men are as average as you can get, with four wins, four draws and, as of week before last when they caused all sorts of troubles for Dortmund, five defeats under their belt.
Dayot Upamecano will miss this one through a suspension but apparently Ethan Ampadu and Ibrahima Konaté are, according to sources, back in the Leipzig’s squad as they’ve successfully recovered from their injuries, with only Kevin Kampl and Willi Orban remaining in their emergency room.
Freiburg, sadly, aren’t as lucky as their MIA list grows by the day and currently include Christian Günter, Manuel Gulde, Janik Haberer, Chang-Hoon Kwon, Amir Abrashi, Lukas Kübler and Mike Frantz.

RB Leipzig vs Freiburg: Prediction
I wouldn’t like to be in Christian Streich’s place this Saturday… Freiburg is traveling to one of the toughest arenas in the country, with a paper thin squad and will have to play against team who’s hell bent to make one last push for the title on the wings of Champions League heroics and who’ll have an abundance of motive against his since Red&Blacks beat them last time they’ve met.
One-sided match and boring victory by the favorites is almost a certainty for this one.
With a huge margin, it would seem. The Red Bulls are usually in the mood following European matches, especially the ones they’ve won so they should be back to their factory settings, destroying visiting sides without mercy and hopefully will show us that their last outing in there, uninspiring and drab 1-1 draw versus Leverkusen was just a bad day at the office.
