Leicester City vs Southampton
English League Cup
Date: Tuesday, 30 October 2018
Kick-Off at 19:45 UK / 20:45 CET
Venue: King Power Stadium (Leicester).
Leicester City enjoyed a deep League Cup run last season when they went all the way to the quarter-final. The Foxes were unlucky to lose to Manchester City on penalties back then after the regular time saw a 1-1 draw.
Can they match last term success and go past fellow Premier League rivals Southampton on Tuesday evening when the two teams take on each other in the last 16 round at King Power Stadium?
Neither of the two sides will come into the game in the highest of spirits. Claude Puel can find the justification in the fact his men played the likes of Everton and Arsenal in past two league matches.
They lost both of them in spite of putting a strong resistance. The Foxes even grabbed an early lead against Arsenal at Emirates Stadium, but allowed the Gunners to score three till the end and eventually win the contest.
Leicester City vs Southampton: Head-to-head
- The two outfits have already met in this term of the Premier League.
- Leicester City clinched a 1-2 victory in late-August at St. Mary’s Stadium thanks to a 92nd-minute winner from Harry Maguire.
- The Foxes won two and drew one of last three encounters against Southampton.
Leicester City vs Southampton: Prediction
The Saints are on a horrendous streak of three defeats and two draws in last five league matches. They failed to find the back of the net in last four Premier League outings. They did manage to stun Everton away at Goodison earlier this month in the League Cup, though, beating the Toffees on penalties after the regular time ended in a 1-1 draw.
We can hardly see such an upset coming against Leicester City who won three of last five home games across competitions. Apart from the home win, we will go with the Foxes to keep a clean sheet on the evening knowing Southampton failed to find the net in last four Premier League matches.
