Leeds United vs Reading
2017/18 EFL Championship
Date: Saturday, 14th October 2017
Kick off at 15:00 UK/16:00 CET
Venue: Elland Road.
Leeds United hosts Reading in an interesting encounter. The hosts were top of the league just before a few rounds and now they are sitting on 5th place.
Leeds took a heavy blow before the international break. The team suffered a defeat at Hillsborough. United never got into the game and Wednesday were the better team. The 3-0 result was probably a bit harsh for Leeds but that’s football.
Reading produced another disappointment last round. The team lost to Norwich at Madejski and continued their struggles. Both teams found the net early in the game but Norwich were the victors in the end. Cameron Jerome scored in the second half to bring another disappointment to the home fans.
Form and Tactical Analysis
Leeds were looking unstoppable at some point. The team was playing well, scoring a lot and keeping clean sheets. Recently they showed their weaknesses when playing on the road. 3 straight defeats on the road sent them down to 5th place. At Elland Road though the situation is much different. 3 victories in a row and still undefeated this season keeping 4 clean sheets in 5 games.
Leeds plays in a 4-2-3-1 formation passing well and keeping their shape at the back. The new boy Lasogga started banging goals and the team looks good especially in front of home crowd.
Reading went from promotion candidates last year playing in the play-offs to struggling for survival. Jaap Stam is probably feeling heavy pressure along with his players. The team is in all sorts of trouble as nothing works for them this season. Their home form is not good enough, their defensive line leaks easy goals and they are having trouble scoring with less than 1 goal per game.
Stam continues to change his teams shape. They played with 3 at the back 2 games ago and last round switched to 4 at the back. This makes us wonder if this has played any part in the disappointing results.

Leeds has the advantage in the most recent games. 3 victories, 1 defeat and 2 draws are their stats in the last 6 against Reading.
- Last season both teams won their home games with Leeds taking 2-0 victory at home while Reading 1-0.

- Leeds is unbeaten in 3 games at home against Reading.
Leeds vs Reading: Prediction
Leeds may have dropped 9 points recently but all were on the road. Elland Road was their fortress last year as it is this. They are playing well there while The royals are struggling not only on the road but overall as a team. That’s a game where Leeds needs to show ambition to bounce back from the bad run of results and show they can challenge for promotion.
