Lazio vs SPAL
Italian Serie A.
Date: Sunday, 4 November 2018
Kick-Off: 11:30 UK,
Venue: Stadio Olimpico (Rome).
Lazio will be keen on getting back to winning ways after a heavy 3-0 defeat to Inter on Monday evening, which has seen them tumble out of the top four. With AC Milan winning their makeup game against Genoa, the Aquile find themselves in fifth spot, but they have a great chance to get back on track against struggling SPAL.
Last season Inter beat Lazio to snatch fourth place and a coveted place in the Champions League and it seems like the Biancocelesti are being left in the dust once again. They have failed to beat any of the top sides this term, losing already to Juventus, Napoli, Roma, and now Inter. However, this game against SPAL could not come at a better time for Simone Inzaghi’s side.
The visitors have been in freefall as of late after starting off well, and it seems their efforts to stay afloat from last season have run out of steam. After a burst of energy, they have hit a really bad patch and now have slipped back down into 15th spot after trying to keep pace with the top sides that had actually seen them at one point in the European places.
But everyone knew that SPAL were not going to be there for long and it wasn’t going to take too long before they were going to be once again fighting to stay afloat. Although they pulled off a shock win against Roma in their last trip to this same ground, it’s hard to see them doing the same to Lazio. They come into this game having lost to Frosinone, giving the Canarini their first win of the season and that truly was a disappointing letdown for SPAL after their upset against the Lupi in their last away game.
Shockingly, they lost by three goals to Frosinone, all without scoring a single goal in front of their own fans. That’s bound to cause a major drop in confidence ahead of their return trip to the Eternal City.
Lazio vs SPAL: Head-to-head statistics
- Lazio have lost just once in their last 14 games against SPAL at the Stadio Olimpico (W7 D6)
- SPAL have lost five of their last six games
Lazio vs SPAL: Prediction
SPAL have lost five of their last six games, and even more concerning, four of those six losses have seen them to find the back of the net. Although Lazio have lost four times this season, those defeats were to Juventus, Napoli, Inter, and Roma – the four teams who are now in the Champions League. SPAL did score twice on their last visit here, but that was against a heavily rotated Roma side. Having failed to score against Frosinone in a home game doesn’t bode well, and despite Lazio’s struggles defensively at times, they did manage to pick up a 1-0 win against Fiorentina here recently.
