Lazio vs Roma
Italian Serie A.
Date: Sunday, 15 April 2018
Kick-Off: 19:45 UK,
Venue: Stadio Olimpico (Rome).
After experiencing different results in their respective European fixtures midweek, both Roma and Lazio will be locked in a battle for third place as the cross-town rivals clash in another edition of the Derby della Capitale.
Lazio were in pole position to secure a spot in the Europa League semi-finals after seeing off Austrian outfit Salzburg at home. However, a stunning collapse on the road overturned the tie on its head and dumped the Aquile out of the competition.
By contrast, Roma were pretty much written off following their 4-1 road loss to Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-finals tie. After all, when the pairing was announced, Catalan newspapers were already gleefully looking forward to who the Blaugrana’s opponent would be in the semi-finals.
And certainly, Barcelona themselves were quite overconfident and saw the second leg as simply just a formality. However, that attitude and approach came back to bite them as the Giallorossi pulled off one of the most stunning comebacks in tournament history to earn a deserved 3-0 home win and dump Lionel Messi & Co. out of the competition.
With Lazio still reeling from their shock result against Salzburg (in a tie many expected them to progress) and Roma still celebrating from their own shock result over Barcelona (in a tie many expected them to lose), both teams will be eager to get the better of one another in what should be a highly entertaining derby clash. Ciro Immobile and Edin Dzeko will naturally lead their respective lines and both were on target midweek, so will be looking to continue in the same vein of form on Sunday.

- Roma have won three consecutive derbies as the “away” team
Lazio vs Roma: Prediction
This should be a cracker of a match – and not just because it’s one of the most fiercely contested derbies in world football. Both teams are in a close battle for third spot, and with Inter trying to force themselves in the mix, there are actually three teams vying for just two more Champions League places.
With Lazio now out of the Europa League, the “hosts” will be hoping to dampen Roma’s spirits after their stunning midweek win over Barcelona, but the “visitors” will be looking to do likewise and heap more misery on Lazio after their own capitulation midweek. This could ultimately result in a stalemate.
