Lazio vs Genoa 2018-19 Italian Serie A Predictions by LeagueLane

Lazio vs Genoa
2018/19 Italian Serie A.
Date: Sunday, 23 September 2018
Kick-Off: 14:00 UK,
Venue: Stadio Olimpico (Rome).

Lazio will be hoping that their troubles are firmly behind them as they host Genoa at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday. The Aquile lost their first two Serie A games, but come into this fixture having won their last two domestic ties and most recently, picked up a win in European action mid-week.

Lazio’s wins over Empoli and Frosinone – two newly promoted sides – were not the prettiest nor the most convincing, but three points are three points. After having to take on Napoli and Juventus, the Aquile were given a life-line in more comfortable opposition, but they surprisingly struggled more than one would have expected against the stubborn defensive approach of Empoli and Frosinone.

Ciro Immobile, who was the joint-top scorer in Serie A alongside Mauro Icardi has not been at his very best in front of goal. And in addition, Simone Inzaghi is dealing with a bit of an injury crisis in defense, with Jordan Lukaku and Luis Felipe among those who are still not available for selection for the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, Genoa have started off well. New signing Krzysztof Piatek has been particularly impressive, and has netted four goals so far for the Grifone, who still have a game in hand after the Ponte Morandi collapse in their city caused their first game to be cancelled. With the exception of a 5-3 loss to Sassuolo that was an entertaining clash for the neutrals, Genoa have picked up two wins from their first three games and have looked a lot more solid than the side that were at one point battling relegation last season.

Lazio vs Genoa: Prediction

Lazio did have a difficult start to the season but in all fairness, the Aquile had to face Napoli and Juventus – the two teams who finished as no. 2 and no. 1 in Serie A last term. Meanwhile, Genoa have lost once on the road, but do look a more cohesive and stronger overall side than last term, and with Piatek in the form he’s been in lately he could cause Lazio some problems.
