Lazio vs AC Milan
2017/18 Italian Serie A.
Date: Sunday, 10 September 2017
Kick-Off: 14:00 UK,
Venue: Stadio Olimpico (Rome).
After splashing the cash, there’s a lot of expectations around AC Milan this season. At the very least, the Rossoneri, who are competing in the Europa League, are expected to make the top four and qualify for the Champions League. There are some who even have hopes that they can challenge for the Scudetto after seeing Juventus dominate for the past six seasons, but that remains to be seen.
So far, it’s been pretty smooth sailing for Vincenzo Montella’s side, but they have been largely unchallenged. In the Europa League they have been pitted against inferior opposition and have cruised through their various qualifying rounds. In Serie A, they have taken on Crotone, who were reduced to ten men early on, and then Cagliari, who had the worst defense outside the bottom three last season, so neither of these two teams were much of a challenge.
Lazio, in theory should represent a bigger step up for this newly refurbished Milan side. The Biancocelesti started the season off well by beating Juventus in the Supercoppa Italiana after an impressive campaign last term, but have stagnated somewhat. Simone Inzaghi’s men opened this term off with a surprise draw to newly promoted SPAL and whilst they did defeat Chievo, it was not entirely a fully assured performance.
Both teams are in Europa League action midweek, so both managers will have to naturally manage their squads efficiently with one eye on those fixtures. Expect a fairly balanced game here. Milan have started off brighter but haven’t been fully challenged, whilst Lazio will be looking to further improve following the international break.
